Mahidol University (MU) has its origins in the establishment of Siriraj Hospital in 1888, and the hospital’s medical school is the oldest institution of higher learning in Thailand. Later it became the University of Medical Sciences in 1943. Mahidol University was renamed with great honour in 1969 by H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Mahidol University has since developed into one of the most prestigious universities in Thailand, internationally known and recognized for the high calibre of research and teaching by its faculty, and its outstanding achievements in teaching, research, international academic collaboration and professional services. Mahidol University has recently become one of the national research universities in Thailand. MU now offers top quality programs in numerous social and cultural disciplines in 17 faculties, 9 institutes, and 7 colleges. The approximate amount of current students in MU is 33,000 students.
Department of Industrial Engineering at Mahidol University (IEMU) was established in 1990. Concept of Production Engineering and classical Industrial Management was an original curriculum. Around 1990, the modern IE concept had applied for revising on smart IE according to the strengths of IE academic staff members including modern industrial management, logistic and supply chain management, quality management and advanced manufacturing systems. In addition, IEMU is responsible to participate in researches and academic services in their stated strengths. Research and academic projects have been conducted for various organizations including: public sectors such as Ministry of Public Health, and Ministry of Industry; and private sectors such as Dutch Mill Group, and Boon Rawd Brewery. According to IEMU strengths, Master off IE program was established in 2007 with the intended outcomes of research performance in advanced management and logistic fields. Moreover, Ph.D. international program in Logistics and Engineering Management was established in 2010 to serve the specified demand in a sophisticated IE field, globally. Finally, in 2017, Department of Industrial Engineering had initiated the tailored made program from a strong demand in the functional food and drink industry – Bachelor of Engineering program in Dairy and Beverage Engineering (International Program).
